Q
|
How long have I lived in Hawaii? On Maui? |
| A: |
Oahu since 1980 and Maui since 1992.
|
| Q |
Why do you like working as a tour guide? |
| A: |
A: I used to teach in public and private schools and I enjoy teaching. So, I teach interested students (you!) everything you might want to know about Hawaiian (Maui's) history, geology, biology, culture, scenery, nature, rain forest, snorkeling, shopping, dining, etc. I also worked for two (2) years with the Hawaiian sovereignty movement here on Maui and learned very much about Hawaiian history and culture and current mindset, of "some" of the Hawaiians.

| Q |
What should we bring with us on a tour with you? |
| A: |
No matter what we decide to do, you will need a lightweight day pack to use to carry anything you might want to bring with you. You might also want to bring : Sunscreen; Mosquito repellent; Swim suit; Sunscreen Walking shoes that you can get dirty and wet, Teva type sandals work best, or old sneakers; Towel; Camera, still and/or video, (maybe both, as you will experience a lot of "kodak moments); Lots of your favorite film (maybe at least twice as much as you think you might need.); Comfortable walking clothes that you can get muddy (depends upon what we do on tour); An extra set of nicer clothes, to wear to dining out after the tour; At least one liter bottle of filtered water per person (you easily get dehydrated w/out realizing it); Warm shirt, rain jacket, sweatshirt or sweater, in case of cold (if we go Haleakala or it rains); Enough cash for snacks, meals, interesting souvenirs along the way as we travel here on Maui; An open and enthusiastic, adventure oriented imagination.

| Q |
What about snakes? |
| A: |
Against the law here in Hawaii? Snakes remain a major, no - no here in the islands. Ask me later.
|
| Q |
What about theft, crime, etc.? |
| A: |
It happens. Why do you think I advised bringing a light day pack? You will want to carry all the valuables you bring with you, on your tour. We do our best to never leave anything valuable in the vehicle. We leave it unlocked and one window open to discourage opportunistic thieves from breaking in. Why "break in" when you only have to open the door and reach in? If potential thieves see a vehicle withopen windows, how can it contain anything valuable?

| Q |
Can you really design an adventure Eco tour that will take us "off the beaten path" and take us to beautiful and isolated places on Maui? |
| A: |
Look at the Testimonials and the Tour Photos which will give you an idea of some of the places I can take you to fulfill your dreams.
|
| Q |
What age range can you take on your tours? |
| A: |
I have taken people from four years old up to 84 years old. I consider anyone under 4 years old as too young to appreciate the experiences that we can create here on Maui? What's the point of bringing someone along whose brain hasn't finished maturing and who may not remember what happened?
|
| Q |
Who do you like the best to lead on tours? |
| A: |
I get most excited when I hear the challenging phrase: "Off the beaten path," then, I get to become my most creative, taking peole back into the ancient rainforest to walk on 500 year old Hawaiian trails back to isolated pools and water falls frequented by early Hawaiians. When we do my favorite tours, we all return muddy, tired and very happy, having fulfilled all our tropical island fantasies. And I/we can do almost anything you can imagine, within the limits of what's available.
